New DVD: Carbon Nation

November 7, 2011

We recently added Carbon Nation to the DBRL collection. The film played at the Ragtag back in April and currently has a rating of 86% from audiences at Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:

A documentary movie about climate change SOLUTIONS. Even if you doubt the severity of the impact of climate change or just don’t buy it at all, this is still a compelling and relevant film that illustrates how SOLUTIONS to climate change also address other social, economic and national security issues.

The Columbia Public Library and the League of Women Voters are sponsoring a special showing of the short documentary Sisters on the Planet (30 min.) on Monday March 14th at 7 p.m. in the Columbia Public Library Friends Room. The documentary is part of a program called Climate Change: Global Concerns, Local Actions. While this film is not part of the monthly Center Aisle Cinema series, we’d still encourage you to attend. Here’s some more information from our program guide:

The effects of climate change have been felt by poor women around the world, many of whom are engaged in helping their communities combat drought, floods, crop losses, fuel shortages, etc. Come learn about this topic with the video “Sisters on the Planet” from Oxfam which highlights women in New Orleans, Uganda and Bangladesh who are empowering their communities. After the screening, we’ll have a panel discussion and Q & A session. Cosponsored by the League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County. Refreshments at 6:30 p.m.

Check out the Sisters on the Planet video PSA or go to the Sisters on the Planet website for more info.
