We recently added “V/H/S” to the DBRL collection. The fictional film played at the True/False Film Festival earlier this year and was partially shot in Columbia, Missouri. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:
A group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger and more inexplicably terrifying.
We recently added Neither Here Nor There to the DBRL collection. We showed this film at Center Aisle Cinema back in March 2011, but we did not have the DVD available at the library until now. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:
The personal journey of the aftermath of the Bosnian War with interwoven stories of the Selimovic family from Srebrenica who resettled in Columbia, Missouri after the fall of the former UN “safe area” that resulted in genocide. Ten years later, the family re-visits the July 1995 massacre of more than 8,000 Bosnians, considered the worst single act of genocide in Europe since the end of the Second World War … Traces the complexities of starting over in a new place when ties to the past remain unbreakable.
This month’s film is The Grace Lee Project (68 min.). When Korean-American filmmaker Grace Lee was growing up in Columbia, she was the only Grace Lee she knew. Once she left Missouri however, everyone she met seemed to know another “Grace Lee.” But why did people assume that all Grace Lees were reserved, dutiful, piano-playing overachievers? The film plunges into a funny, highly unscientific investigation into all those Grace Lees who break the mold–from a fiery social activist to a rebel who tried to burn down her high school. This movie played at the 2006 True False Film Fest. Check out the trailer below:
Columbia Public Library, Friends Room Special guest: Aisling contestant Aaron Marchbanks
American Shopper (86 min.) showcases the stories of contestants competing in a new sport that promotes self-expression through creative supermarket shopping. This film follows eight “aislers” as they modify shopping carts, create costumes and rehearse routines in preparation for the First National Aisling Championship hosted at the Schnucks grocery store in Columbia Missouri. This movie played at the 2007 True False Film Fest. Check out the trailer below:
