We recently added “A Family Undertaking” to the DBRL collection. We showed the film last year as part of the Center Aisle Cinema series at the library, and it also appeared in 2004 on the PBS series POV. Here’s a synopsis from our blog post:

The documentary “A Family Undertaking” (60 min.) explores the growing home funeral movement by following several families in their most intimate moments as they reclaim the end of life, forgoing a typical mortuary funeral to care for their loved ones at home. Through their stories we see that “hands-on” care for the dead by family members, including children, can aid in grieving, bring a sense of fulfillment, and help loved ones to grasp the reality of a death. Their home funerals are remarkable documents of death made intimate, meaningful, and even joyful.

Containing the same bizarre, unsettling message, which seems to concern resurrecting the world’s dead, most people walk over them without a thought, until now. Justin Duerr, long obsessed with the tiles, has begun a quest to unearth both their origins and meaning.

New DVD: The Tillman Story

February 16, 2011

We recently added The Tillman Story to the DBRL collection. The movie played at Ragtag last year and has gotten a fair amount of good reviews. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:

Pat Tillman chose to walk away from a multimillion-dollar football contract and join the military for no other reason than he felt it was the right thing to do. Documented are the facts surrounding the way the military manipulated his tragic death in the line of duty into a propaganda tool, which is totally unfathomable.
