April 18, 2012

We recently added Miss Representation to the DBRL collection. The film played at the MU Women’s Center in March and currently has a rating of 85% from audiences at Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:

As the most persuasive and pervasive force of communication in our culture, media is educating yet another generation that a woman’s primary value lay in her youth, beauty and sexuality–and not in her capacity to lead, making it difficult for women to obtain leadership positions and for girls to reach their full potential. The film accumulates startling facts and statistics that leave audiences shaken, armed with a new perspective.

We recently added Hot Coffee to the DBRL collection. The film was broadcast on HBO in June and currently has a rating of 88% from audiences at Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s a synopsis from our catalog:

Exposes how corporations spent millions on a propaganda campaign to distort Americans’ view of lawsuits, forever changing the civil justice system. From the infamous case of the woman who sued McDonalds over spilled coffee to the saga of the Mississippi Supreme Court Justice deemed ‘not corporate enough’ by business interests, this program tears apart the conventional wisdom about ‘frivolous lawsuits.’
