We recently added Fish Out of Water to the DBRL collection. The movie played at the 2010 Citizen Jane Film Festival and won the Best Documentary Film award at the 2010 Show Me Social Justice Film Festival. Here’s a synopsis from the Citizen Jane website:
You might think you know where the Bible stands on the subject of homosexuality, but when was the last time you actually checked? In the spirited documentary Fish out of Water, filmmaker Ky Dickens explores the seven Bible passages used to condemn homosexuality and justify marriage discrimination. Through animated Bible passages and witty illustrations, Fish out of Water makes this polarizing subject accessible and non‐threatening. The film starts with the director coming out to her sorority sisters in college but their rabid rejection sparks her search for Bible‐ based condemnation. Crisscrossing America and listening to the country’s impassioned speech on this divisive issue, she speaks with ministers of all denominations, recording the experiences of the oppressed and the justifications of the oppressors.
